Core Facility Technologist
Under the general supervision of the director of mass cytometry facility, we are seeking a Core Facility Technologist will function as a dedicated specialist for all tasks related to the generation and preliminary analysis of mass cytometry data, including protocol reporting, quality check reporting, data summary, maintenance of, and operation of mass cytometers on a day-to-day basis. Will help to ensure strict adherence to facility protocols and work with the facility members as appropriate to optimize and revise the services offered. Training related to mass cytometry will be provided.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily operation of state of the art, multi-dimensional cell sorters, including start-up, quality control of protocols and monitoring of performance.
- Maintain calibrations/tuning reports of mass cytometers.
- Assisting with the operation of mass cytometers.
- Following and optimizing facility protocols for core facility services offered.
- Scheduling and billing of core users.
- Data retrieval, archival, transfer, and/or preliminary analysis.
- Additional responsibilities may be incorporated as expertise is acquired.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Good verbal and written skills are required.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical.
- General computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry or related field or AA degree with some science coursework and laboratory experience performing relevant techniques may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Additional experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with flow/mass cytometry analysis software, e.g. FlowJo, CytExpert, FCSexpress, Fluidigm CyTOF software, etc, .
- Certificate from technical institute or internship experience.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
