Nurse Practitioner
The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Division of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, responsible for providing comprehensive care related to fertility and reproductive endocrinology care. This provider will practice within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the State of Maryland. The Nurse Practitioner is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center; these privileges are reviewed annually. She/he will be responsible to the preceptor, clinical standards of practice and the Director of the Division of Gynecologic Specialties. The Nurse Practitioner will report to the Director of the Division of Gynecologic Specialties.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides care to women as it relates to infertility evaluation and treatment, transvaginal ultrasound monitoring of controlled ovarian stimulation, intrauterine insemination and issues related to reproductive endocrinology and infertility, in a timely, professional, and friendly manner.
- Will triage calls from patients which may include diagnosis and management of UTIs, vaginitis, irregular menses, vaginal bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy, pelvic pain as well as various other female-related issues. Provides independent management of OB and GYN complaints, including counseling, testing, diagnosis, treatment, and/or follow-up, referring patients appropriately to other physician providers as needed, in the case of issues too complex or complicated to be managed by the nurse practitioner. Performs health screening including annual well woman visits.
- A key skill is the ability to perform transvaginal ultrasound for the non-pregnant patient undergoing evaluation and treatment for infertility, and transvaginal ultrasound in the first trimester of pregnancy. If applicant doesn’t currently possess the ability to perform transvaginal ultrasounds, they must be willing to learn this skill as it would be included as part of training when the position commences.
- Establishes medical and nursing diagnoses; orders, performs and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or manages follow-up plans. Documents patient chart information as needed, including but not limited to problem identification, treatment and follow-up, ovarian stimulation flow sheets and other program forms as needed. Records and documents health assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services.
- Prescribes and regulates medications per written agreement. Reviews daily laboratory, radiology and other reports and provides for appropriate treatment and follow-up as indicated. Reports abnormal patient findings to appropriate physician colleagues and is responsible for coordinating the reporting of all STDs to state agencies, as indicated and appropriate.
- Supports clinical activities of the Johns Hopkins Green Spring Station REI practice, by providing patient and family education, developing teaching materials and other support activities as time permits.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions. Develops, conducts, and/or evaluates formal or informal in-service and continuing education programs in areas of expertise for peer groups and other disciplines. Assumes responsibility for their own professional development and remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education. Participates on department, functional unit, and Hospital committees, as assigned.
- Serves as clinical preceptor for nursing students, including nurse practitioner or nurse midwife candidates as time permits. Participates in the development and implementation of quality assurance program. Adheres to Hospital and nursing policies and procedures. May be required to work at other JHU/JHH GYN/OB outpatient facilities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
- Current American Heart CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to the start date.

Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $152,900 Annually ($120,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
