Clinical Nurse

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse who will participates in the day-to-day clinical, administrative, and operational activities of the Employee Health and Wellness Center at the on-site clinic at the Mack Truck/Volvo on-site clinic in Macungie, PA. The position reports directly to the onsite APP and Clinical Coordinator for the Mack Truck/JHU partnership. The position also works closely with the Medical Director and Division Administrator of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site services up to forty (40) hours per week.
  • Provide prompt, appropriate clinical care to all Mack Truck/Volvo employees in conformance with Johns Hopkins and Mack Truck/Volvo policies, clinical protocols, state regulations, and ethical standards. This includes injury/illness triage and treatment, vital signs, vision testing, urine collection, blood collection, first aid, and life support.
  • Document all clinical care provided in a legible, professional, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Triage and treat, as appropriate, minor work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Dispense over-the-counter medication in accordance with pre-established standing orders to employees with minor work-related and non-work-related concerns (back pain, headache, pharyngitis).
  • Perform substance abuse testing in accordance with Mack Truck/Volvo and federally mandated protocols.
  • Respond to medical emergencies as they occur on the Mack Truck/Volvo campus.
  • Provide support and case management for work-related conditions for the purposes of reducing illness and absenteeism.
  • Participate in wellness offerings.
  • Assist in the coordination of second opinions for employees absent due to workers’ compensation or disability, as necessary in adherence with company protocols.
  • Assist in providing referrals for Mack Truck/Volvo employees who need the attention of a primary care physician or specialist.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up communication with Mack Truck/Volvo supervisors/management.
  • Proved general medical advice to the Mack Truck/Volvo Human Resources and Safety/Risk Management.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate problem resolution and follow-up with patients as required.
  • Ensure onsite medical department facilities are neat, clean, and attractive.
  • Conduct yourself in an exemplary fashion to achieve goals.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate and determine the health status of a patient and implement proper care.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interview, teach, and counsel patients and interact with clients/employers.
  • A comprehensive understanding of outpatient adult nursing, patient care procedures, medical protocols, and testing procedures is necessary.


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Certified Urine Drug Screen Collector preferred.
  • Certified Breath Alcohol Technician preferred.
  • Spirometry Testing.
  • Audiometric Testing.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved Registered Nurse Program.
  • Registered/licensed by the State of Pennsylvania/ Board of Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years related experience (adult medicine).
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Occupational Medicine and Workers’ Compensation
  • Board-certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN/COHN-S)

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
