Talent Acquisition Specialist

We are seeking a Talent Acquisition Specialist  who will manage talent pools, screen employment applications, assist with sourcing candidates and conduct employment interviews of candidates for our casual, part-time and other limited roles. 


This position will assist with these tasks for a variety of positions including K-12 teachers, teaching assistants, resident assistants, curriculum writers, administrative and other staff.  This position will be required to consistently use our applicant tracking system and other required tools to complete their work. 



This position is telecommute from only within the U.S.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Candidate Screening & Interviewing
    • Proactively work in applicant tracking system to review candidates in talent pools to identify qualifications and identify open positions that may be of interest and best fit for the candidate to apply
    • Provide prospective candidates with information on how to apply to open positions
    • Review applications to determine the candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications.  Complete applicable pre-screening measures for minimally qualified candidates to ensure they are able to move quickly to the interview stage
    • Conduct interviews as needed in assigned areas including making the hiring decision based on approved hiring criteria


  • Candidate Experience Management
    • Proactively follow-up with candidates to ensure their understanding of open positions, the hiring process, etc. with focus on delivering an excellent candidate experience
    • Engage in post hire efforts to identify and understand retention promoters and blocker for assigned area(s)


  • Internal Collaboration
    • Partner with the Sourcing Consultant to proactively share information related to candidate quality to inform and assist in the measurement of source quality and effectiveness
    • Consults with CTY HR team as well as University central HR as needed to ensure talent acquisition needs are met without risk to compliance and other University guidelines
    • Perform special employment projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, or related field 
  • At least two years of progressive experience in high volume, fast-paced staffing, corporate recruiting, university recruiting or admissions capacity
  • Prior experience with technology applications including applicant tracking systems and CRM tools
  • Prior experience using Success Factors a plus
  • Additional education may substitute for some experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*


JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service skills with both client and customers
  • Flexibility in adapting to and responding quickly to changing priorities and deadlines with a high sense of urgency
  • Familiar with employment law related to pre-employment screening, OFCCP and other regulations that impact the sourcing and hiring process
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and work appropriately with highly sensitive information
  • Prior experience and skills using competency based behavioral interviewing techniques
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with little direction, prioritize workloads, multi-task and manage priorities in order to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Able to work in a digital environment requiring strong technical skills (MS SharePoint, Box, Formstack, Smartsheet, Microsoft Teams, Excel & PowerPoint etc.)


Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and printer. 
  • Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery.
  • Frequent communication with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations verbally and in writing.
  • Position also requires a degree of mobility common to working in an office environment; bending, kneeling or standing during events and presentations may be required.


Additional Information:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US and based in the US
  • All employees participating in or serving children in University programs must participate in mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training on the appropriate conduct around children, protecting children from abuse and neglect, and reporting of known or suspected child abuse and neglect

Starting Salary Range: ​​​​​​​$17.59 - $24.80/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
