General Description

Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) seeks an entrepreneurial, detail-oriented professional to lead the corporate and foundation giving program. The Associate Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations plans, implements, and manages strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and closure of gifts and grants from corporate and foundation partners to benefit Johns Hopkins SAIS.



Strategize with leadership, including the Director of Development, Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations, and central JHU Corporate Relations and Foundation Relations to create an annual work plan that helps achieve the school’s fundraising and development goals and objectives; plan and implement annual and major gift strategies ($100,000 and above) in conjunction with the overall work plan.


Manage an average of 100-125 corporate and foundation prospects per year and conduct an average of 20 visits per year; utilize the ALADIN database and related systems to manage prospect and stewardship activities.


Identify new corporate and foundation prospects, with an emphasis on building a robust corporate giving program.


Work with SAIS and JHU business office and research projects administration to develop budgets, ensure timely review, compliance, and submission of proposals.


Staff SAIS leadership and faculty members on donor visits as appropriate; collaborate with faculty and academic program coordinators to develop proposals and reports.


Oversee internal and outreach communications related to corporate and foundation relations activity.

Collaborate with colleagues from other divisions within JHU, central development operations, SAIS Europe, and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center.


Serve as SAIS representative on JHU Corporate & Foundation Relations Roundtable.


Design and implement a corporate giving program.


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Five years related experience with minimum two years foundation fundraising required.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in related industries, including corporate philanthropy, foundation grant-making, or academic administration.

  • Exceptional writing skills.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.


The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
