SAIS is excited to announce an opening for a Development Coordinator in its Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The SAIS Office of Development and Alumni Relations’ work touches the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and is informed by a dedicated Board of Advisors. The Coordinator will oversee gift and pledge accounting, information and data management, stewardship, annual fund, and related duties. This position has growth potential, as it is closely aligned with core operations such as Annual Fund.


The primary responsibilities and duties of the position include:

Gift and Pledge Accounting: process gifts and ensure quality controls in gift processing procedures. Work with the SAIS and JHU Development Business Offices, academic program areas, and others to ensure accurate accounting codes. Work with gift officers, academic program areas, and others to draft and send timely acknowledgement letters and other appropriate donor stewardship materials as needed.


Information/Data Management: Pull customized donor lists for activities such as the honor roll, program-specific solicitations, corporate and foundation alumni searches, and other initiatives. Serve as liaison to university­wide Relationship Management group.


Stewardship Activities: Manage overall strategy for the fellowship stewardship program: coordinate with Office of Financial Aid on awarding; secure materials from fellowship recipients; send mailing materials to donors. Design and implement other endowment stewardship programs as needed. In conjunction with others, plan and execute donor reception to introduce donors to their recipients; work with Special Events Coordinator to create collateral event materials. Maintain mandatory stewardship records, pull stewardship reports and update gift officer actions when necessary.


Annual Fund: Design and execute the second year Class Gift strategy by working with student liaisons to craft cultivations, hold events, and track class fundraising progress. Manage the Christian Herter Society donor list in coordination with Annual Giving.


General Support: assist Americas team gift officers with travel logistics and maintenance of prospect records, including entering visit notes. Assist with special events and other administrative duties as assigned.



High School diploma/GED required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Three years related experience required. Additional Information: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non­ related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. Proficiency in Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Familiarity with Excel and database reporting.
